Thinking about old YouTube (thanks Body Rolls / Tight Pants) and something weird occurred to me. What do you think the internet would look like if there was never anything such as the algorithm? I know it's pretty much impossible that some form of it wouldn't exist, but when you look back on the old internet, it was really one of two things: Either most popular, or something you specifically follow. It's my personal opinion that, were it not for the algorithm, the internet would not have changed so much in the middle of the 2010s. I don't think impact font cat memes would still be viral but I do think that culture of trying to go viral would still exist a little closer to how it did back then. Maybe?
Thinking about making YouTube videos, making them unlisted and posting them only on a website. I think I really like the idea of that kind of privacy while still being able to publically share stuff I make. Hmm......
